Paromita Kar is an Indian classical Odissi dancer and the first to complete a PhD degree in Dance Studies in Canada (York University, Toronto). She is a student of Guru Durgacharan Ranbir of Orissa, India, training in the discipline of the Debaprasad Das style of Odissi dance, a history and theorization of which formed the subject of her doctoral research work at York University. She has performed in Canada, India and the United States.
